Digital Storytelling for Indigenous Languages Workshop

Participants attending this workshop will have hands-on experience in creating their own digital storytelling material. Students will learn to create digital storytelling for Indigenous languages. Students will learn how to create storyboards, character designs, layout design, as well as how to use digital drawing programs such Raster (Pixels) and Vector Digital Imagery. Students will also become familiar with other digital techniques for digital drawing, such as the use of Wacon drawing tablet. The focus will be to create digital materials that make use of oral language. Besides the practical aspect of this course, students will also become familiar with the use of mainstream digital media for the language and cultural preservation efforts. Students will also learn how the development of digital storytelling materials can be incorporated in collaborative community-based projects. This workshop is for everyone and anyone: young and old; tech savvy or not. If you are creative and have a desire to share your own stories, or the need to represent a story of your community, Kaylene and Wilson will make you feel completely supported and at home. Registered participants will receive a Zoom link prior to the workshop. There will be three live sessions. Participants will work at their own pace to complete assignments using pre-taped instructional lessons and demonstrations.
