Arizona Tribal Language Verification for Teachers

An historic policy change unanimously passed by the Arizona State Board of Education allows tribes to establish their own native language proficiency standards.  AILDI has sponsored periodic working sessions designed to encourage tribes to draft their own policies. To date, the Navajo Nation is the only tribe that has written and designed their own language proficiency verification standards. Representatives from the Navajo Nation were invited to share information on their standards and how they were developed at one of the meetings. Contact the AILDI office for more information at
