SAIL/AILDI Conference: Language is Life- April 12 & 13, 2019

The SAIL/AILDI co-convened conference: Language is Life will celebrate several important milestones including the UNESCO's designation of 2019 as the International Year of Indigenous Languages, 40 years of language education provided by AILDI and 20 years of the Native American Language and Linguistics Master of Arts Program (NAMA) at the University of Arizona.  The conference will feature panels, plenary sessions and hands-on workshops.  A poster session will include topics related to language revitalization, maintenance strategies, pedagogy, linguistic analysis and best practices related to language documentation and conservation.

The SAIL/AILDI Conference theme acknowledges that speaking one’s heritage language is as essential as the elements of life. Air, water and land are all life-giving and so is speaking your language.

SAIL and AILDI share a commitment to bring together Indigenous communities, scholars, Native speakers, language educators, and language activists to exchange experiences, research, practice and resources. The conference welcomes the active participation of all that are interested in the revitalization and preservation of Indigenous languages and cultures.

The SAIL/AILDI conference will be held April 12 &13, 2019 at the University of Arizona, Tucson.
