Recording Traditional Talk: Land, Plant & Animal Restoration, May 6 & 7, 2016

Responding to a request from the Gila River Indian Community (GRIC), AILDI collaborated with the Tribal Education department to create a two-day workshop that focused on documenting and recording traditional ecological knowledge. The hands-on workshop was designed specifically for GRIC language and culture teachers as well as community members. Using primarily iphones, ipads and androids, participants learned how to develop language learning tools and teaching materials based on the natural environment. The workshop included a visit to a recently restored natural vegetation site on the GRIC.

Instructors for the workshop included Tyler Peterson, Ph.D., University of Arizona and Luis Barragan, Senior Curator, Huhugam Heritage Center, Gila River Indian Community.
